American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) celebrates every child as a beloved gift of God to our churches and to our world. ABHMS aims to affirm and nurture the gifts of our children, and to encourage our congregations to create space for their leadership, giftedness, and wisdom in the context of corporate worship and prayer. ABHMS will facilitate a cohort-based program of shared learning for participating congregations, designed for cultivating connection, collaboration, coaching, and resource sharing. Through virtual and in-person convenings, ABHMS will equip congregational teams as they (re)design corporate worship and prayer practices that more intentionally and fully engage children, using research-based, developmentally appropriate strategies, with attention to how children experience the divine and express their faith. As we discern new ways of nurturing, affirming, and empowering the youngest among us, ABHMS aims to publish and disseminate culturally responsive resources, and support professional development trainings for ministry leaders and volunteers within our cohorts, wider denomination, and beyond.
